One week down

Last Thursday, I pulled the trigger..bit the bullet! …cocked the gun? no..that doesn’t work…

I officially canceled my Directv. Like, officially officially. No temporary turn off for 6 months to see how I do, no cancel it and 1 hour later call back to pleeeeeease keep it on!!! Its off. And its off for good.

I’m waiting for the box to arrive for me to mail my receiver back. They don’t know I still have the other box they sent from my original failed attempt to cancel, so I’m patiently waiting for it to come. The guy was good though. He made every effort. Sighting how I’ve been such a loyal customer for so many years, how I’m eligible for a free updated HD DVR since I’ve had mine for so long, how he could save me $30+ on a different plan.

All I had to do was say, okay. But I’m done! I’ve griped and complained long enough about what’s showing on tv these days. The commercials alone are enough to make me feel unclean, and I’m happy I finally did it.

I’m not going all nun on you, I still have Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime, so it’s pretty much like I still have tv, only I won’t be inundated with the trash that’s all over the channels. I should also state that dumping nearly $100 a month on a service I barely use was getting to be a bit much for me. I could use a good cut back.

Not to mention my need to fund the haircut and color coming up in November. Gotta pay for it somehow. ;)

It’s nice. The quiet is nice. My mind looks forward to the cleansing again. It began getting used to the reality shows and sitcoms again, deeming them funny and okay to watch. I think I can go the rest of my life with never watching another reality show ever again.

And though this wasn’t my big ol’ happy announcement I mentioned Monday (which if you follow me on Instagram {emily_grapes} or twitter you’ll see it there today) it’s what’s going on in these parts.

I have parties throughout this entire weekend, plus I get to spend time with a friend who sees me as her fashion consultant…which scares me a bit. I go to you all for fashion advice and sometimes get it wrong, so for me to be the one that says yes and no for her is a bit intimidating.

I’ll leave you with 2 pins where I came to mind when my friend’s saw them.
LeAnna thought this was fitting for this post I wrote. Which I wholeheartedly agree. Love it!!

And Michee thought this was perfect for this post I wrote.

I love you ladies, and I especially love that you think of me when you see certain pins. Warms this heart over here.

Have a warm, soup filled weekend!!

A thankful me - 28

Hi, I’m Emily, and I was temporarily bi-polar over the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday couldn’t have been further from each other when it came to my personality. Saturday was all about the depression of life, my world was coming to an end, crying at the drop of a hat. A guy pulls his hamstring in a race – cry. A girl sticks her landing on one leg – cry. A dog eats a piece of ham – cry. I was miserable. Add the fact G-man is over 3000 miles away on the phone not able to help or understand why I’m feeling this way for absolutely no reason at all other than its ‘that time’ made me all the more weepy.

I knew that I would go to bed and wake up Sunday completely fine. It always lasts 24 hours and true to my hormone’s bi-polar ways, I woke up completely happy. I even…are you ready for this? Went into the city. Shocker!! And while at the crazy insane busy stores, I remained happy. Craziness, I tell you.

All is right in my world again.

I’m thankful for:
- G-man safely making it to the East coast. He went from 3 hours behind me to 3 hours ahead of me…
- cooking shows. The only shows that kept me sane on Saturday and even had me crack a smile from time to time
- doing a little retail therapy at Kohl’s. I finally found a dress for my friend’s rehearsal dinner. It has the short front long back thing going and I think its perfect for their Carmel location wedding. Thanks to mom and everyone on instagram who gave me the boost to get it. Its definitely out of my element with being a pattern. I’m a solids girl.

- making new friends. I seriously love doing that!
- testing out pinterest recipes. I made this potato. Though I had high hopes of its crispy buttery garlicy deliciousness, it just..wasn’t. It was alright.
photo (30)I have a slight feeling I may smell like garlic tomorrow. There was a slice in between each and everyone of those potato slices.

This coming week should be a good one, seeing how it’s my last week as a 30 year old. My last Monday..my last Tuesday..my last, ok I’ll stop the dramatics.

Happy Monday everyone!! Pin It Now!

Fulfilling the pins

I reeeeeeally enjoy pinterest. Like really. Where else can you pin a website to go back to later, than pinterest?
I realize there are other ‘pinterest similar’ sites out there but pinterest is the only way to go…

I have currently 90 recipe pins in my ‘yummy foods’ board. A little much, don’t you think? Sadly, I wasn’t really making too many of them, but that has changed my friends!! I was on a quest to make very healthy {yet still delicious} recipes while with my love and I’m happy to say, I succeeded.

I made:
these kale chips from Clara Photo Blog that we seriously loved.

roasted broccoli from the lovely Carissa at lowercase letters. I made this with countless dinners and we loved it each and every time.

chicken w/artichoke hearts from Gina’s Skinny Taste blog…I’m pretty sure we’ve all heard of Gina’s tasty blog before. I also made her thai chicken and pineapple stir fry. Both were great but I did have to add more sauce to both as they were a little dry. Pretty sure that was because of something I did.
Oh and I forgot I made her crock pot kalua pork and it was absolutely delicious. She says to cook for 16 hours and thankfully I questioned this with everyone and they agreed it was way too long. So I did about 8-9 hours and it turned out perfectly!

kale, white bean, sausage soup from the dear Sam at Fitness Food and Faith. This was tasty!! G-man wanted spinach in it but I actually loved having the kale in there. He added his signature Tabasco to it, but I had it as is and will be making it this week again for myself!

the loaded bowl from Clean Eating Machine blog. This WAS delicious!! G-man and I loved this. Its so colorful and yummy!

aaaand finally PB 'nana cream bites from Nom Nom Nom. These didn’t work exactly. The chocolate wouldn’t harden at all, but still tasted alright.

I’ve also been dying for Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray. Once I found a ‘make your own’ Surf Spray, I couldn’t wait to make it. The first time I used my own spray, I used a blow dryer and it didn’t work that well. I was so disappointed. But I thought I’d give it another go and let it air dry on its own and it worked great! I love this stuff!

Have you been making the recipes you pin? Or the projects you find? There’s so many wonderful ideas that so many have come up with, it makes me want to do more.
