Thinks and thoughts

Do you ever read a book and within the first few pages you know it’s a lousy book? Now, when you realize that, do you keep reading till the very end? Or do you stop at that moment and go for a new book?

I can’t stop. No matter how horrible the book is. The characters, the writing, the premise, I can’t not finish. I need to see how the crappy characters end up. I’ll keep telling myself, sometimes out loud, how lame the book is, throughout, but I’ll finish it.

That’s what I’m doing right now. Its horrible! The writing is horrible! The words the author uses is ridiculous and the characters literally make me roll my eyes in annoyance. But now I’m half way through and I can’t wait to finish. For the obvious, just want to be done, reasons.

Do you read more than one book at a time? Or only one? And I mean novels. I don’t know how people can read multiple books at once. It makes me feel like I’m doing the book an injustice reading another, and I feel a little chaotic when I do, actually.

I like focusing on one group of characters, one story line. So I can give it my all. Is that crazy?

On to another ‘crazy’ question. How can people read a book in a day? Let alone an entire series, 3 or more, in a week?! Seriously, how do people do that!!? If you’re one of ‘them’ tell me how you do it?! Did you get that program that teaches you to speed read? …remember those?

If I’m devoted, I can finish a book in just under a week, but I sit in awe over those who read a thick book in a day.

As you can see, I have a lot of ‘thinks and thoughts’ today..okay, not just today.

Pin It Now!

Way back, when my perfect children were growing up, I would read more than one book at a time out of necessity. To escape the chaos of said children, I would go sit in the bathroom with the 'bathroom' book. If I was working in the kitchen, I would read the 'kitchen' book. The kids wouldn't come in because they knew I would put them to work. The kids are gone now, but I spent so much time over the years escaping to the bathroom, I find I still like to enjoy the quiet I find there. When the hubby calls out, 'hey, come here and hold this for me', I can say, 'sorry, I'm in the bathroom'!

Novels I read one at a time, other books though, like school/theology... I think I'm reading four right now. Maybe five. If a book is actually lousy I will chuck it across the room and never finish it, mainly because I don't have time to spend reading a book that's... blah. With those thick books though... In the past I've been able to read one a day. I did that with the Harry Potter series and Twilight series (although I came really close to chucking Twilight. HA!) So it can be done, but the material has to be really good, and I have to have absolutely nothing else to do as well.

when I find a lousy book, I drop it like its hot. I just can't finish it! I have to be captivated by the third chapter or I'm done :) And I'm one of those book devourers...I finish them in a day or a series in a week. My secret? Forego daily life functions (ie socializing, bathing, eating, fresh air). Seriously, if I find an amazeballs book, I'm hooked and won't put the book down for anything but going to the bathroom..and even then I sometimes take it with me. TMI? :) This tendency of mine is both awesome and terrible, because I now find it hard to leisurely read a book (aka take more than 2 days) and therefore just don't read unless I have a seriously window of time to devote to it. Its my cross to bear :)

i read a few different books at once, but usually have a favorite that i clamor for until it's all read. it depends... if i think a book isn't that great at first, but has some deeper value (i.e, spiritual) i will stick to it. otherwise, i have a whole list of books i want to read. can't waste my time! : )

I can read a book in a day, but then my work is 8 hours of free time so that helps!

Also, if the book sucks I ship to the last chapter and If the endings ok I'll finish the book if not I refuse to finish.

I love that book pic!!

I only like to read one at a time, and if it is truly terrible, I will stop reading it and get rid of it. And my mom used to be able to read a book in a day when she was working as the receptionist at a law firm and was allowed to read - on slow days around the holidays, that's all she did!

You seriously crack me up Em! I heart you!! I usually only read one book at a time, and if it sucks, I usually stop reading it. Unless the storyline is just good, kind of like Twilight... haha!

HAHA! I do read two books at once, almost always. I know it's totally weird, but it's usually a non-fiction/history book and then some easy read murder mystery. I don't know why. I just finished The King's Speech while reading a Cindy Gerrard romantic suspense.

I was a TOTAL nerd growing up, and all I did was walk around with my nose in a book. I would read a whole series of books, and then reread them while waiting for my parents to buy me new books. I do the same thing today. I buy books, read them, and reread them while I'm waiting for new books.

Obviously I'm still a nerd.

I can only read one book at a time, too!! I get so invested into that one, so I can't go to another one.

Oh, and I read most books in one day. I'm sorry. : ) Don't hate me.

Okay. I just left a long comment, and it gave me some error message. So I did a test. That's why that says test.

I hope this one posts.

If I dont like a book I"ll just stop. I read so little that I woul rather spend my time reading something that I enjoy than something that I don't enjoy. And have you read the hunger games series? If not, go read it and you'll get how people can do it in a week. Otherwise I don't really read that much either...unless it's blogs...I read those a lot.

I can never read more than one book at a time. My simple mind can't hold all that in.
Usually, if I really, really, really, hate the book, I stop right around the middle. However, once I did think this book was going to be pretty awful and I was getting SO annoyed with it, but my friend told me to stick with it. And I did. And I'm glad.
You never know...

Ok it's been way too long since I blog stalked you. I can't read multiple books at a time but I have been known to read a book in one day. In fact, I read 'Water for Elephants' in one FLIGHT. Granted, it was like a 5 hour flight but still. Here's the thing I notice about me reading. I don't read every single word. I read enough to know what is going on....if that makes sense. So, there's my secret. And, I have to be totally engrossed in the book and it has to be total entertainment....none of those thinking books.
