Since G-man is here. Since I knew this day was coming. Since I heavily rely on my iPhone calendar to remind me (even though…I knew it was coming, like I said) and since you guys screamed for more..though my insecure side thinks you were just being polite…today marks the San Francisco date following our very first date.
Hooray for all!
I will now summarize it for you, for your inner joy that is a-leaping.
It was a cold and stormy night… Ok, not really.
Once he picked me up from the facility I was temporarily working, we started the long 2 1/2 hour drive to San Francisco. My roommate demanded I text her his license plate, so if anything happened to me, she would make sure they would “hunt him down!”
<these pictures are all from my point and shoot camera days>
There was no shortage of conversation the entire way and once we got there we found a place to park before making our trek to pier 39, where we were going to tour Alcatraz. But not before he nervously attempted to go down a one way street….the wrong way, missing the turn into the parking garage and almost running a red light.
Thank goodness he had me there to scream, ‘THAT’S A ONE WAY!’ ‘Red light, RED light RED LIGHT!’ ‘You know you can turn in right there, right?’
Yeah, you can thank my, type A ‘prison’ personality at that time. I was very vocal. …would you believe he thought it was assertive and attractive?? <At the time any way…later on in the relationship, it just got on his nerves, ha!>
After getting out to Alcatraz, I immediately fell into my ‘I’m weird with prison stuff’ personality and hardly talked. Like at all. Taking the tour, I felt like I was at work, so I got very quiet and stand offish. …was it dumb? Yes. Did I know this? Yes. But I just couldn’t get over the whole, I’m in a prison, I work in a prison, I already know this crap, why am I here, issues.
case in point. Alcatraz is a 3 tiered prison. I despise this style of prison. despise!
At one point he asked if I was ok, and I told him, I get in these quiet moods sometimes but that I’d be ok. And he completely respected it, giving me my space. He told me later he thought he did something wrong to make me ‘angry’. <Aahhh, weird Emily. How you get even on my nerves, sometimes.>
Once the tour was finished we walked back toward the ferry and he asked to hold my hand. Perfect fit.
Winding our way through the crowds to find our seats for the Blue Angel show, our hands stay inner twined. We take our seats and enjoy the beautiful view.
uh oh little kiddies. Have no fear, they righted themselves pretty quickly.
As each plane goes over, he described them in a way only a pilot who’s flown them would know, and I’m relishing in all the little perks in having a pilot as my date.
He’d tell me to watch from the left, while everyone was looking right, because he knew the jet was coming. To look up, as another soars past our heads. This date was turning out to be perfect.
Later that night, we drive to San Mateo for dinner at the Melting Pot and I’m shocked his form of directions to get there, are in the form of a google map. Not step by step written directions (like I depend on, heavily), but, here is a jumbled map of the area, good luck finding it, map. I knew this man had a brain.
After a wonderful dinner, we make the long drive back to the facility. Holding hands in the car, I fall asleep…mouth wide open, facing him.
How did I know he thought it was a great date and the love of his life {I may be exaggerating on that last part}? When I woke up, he said he thought I looked cute sleeping like that.
